When you forcibly reset your phone, you really force your phone to reboot. Compulsory reset helps you when your phone is frozen and you do not want to lose data on it. You can restart your phone briefly by holding down the reboot button without lifting your finger on the button for a specified period of time. If you are having serious problems with your iPhone or want to remove data from your phone before you give it to someone else, you can perform a factory reset instead. Resetting the factory will remove all data from your iPhone, so be sure to back up before resetting the factory.
Method 1: Reboot for iPhone
• Hold down the power button, with the main menu button together, and this method is suitable for resetting the iPhone.
• Keep pressing the two buttons together until you see the Apple logo. This may take about 20 seconds.
• Wait a little while for the iPhone to take off, as the iPhone takes some time to completely reboot, and after a take-off that may take a minute, the main screen will appear.
• Test your phone after rebooting If it is still in the freezer, the reboot is usually sufficient to remove the freeze, but if you still have problems you can reset the factory to get rid of it. If your iPhone is freezing when running a particular application, it is advisable to delete that app and find an alternative.
Method 2: Reset the factory for iPhone
• First, save a backup copy of your important data: Resetting the factory will erase all data on your iPhone, so back up through iTunes or using your iCloud account.
1. iCloud: Connect your iPhone to your wireless network. Open the Settings app and choose "iCloud". Then click on the "Backup" option, enable "on iCloud Backup", and then click "Backup Now". Backup may take some time.
2. iTunes: Connect the iPhone to your computer and run iTunes. Then select the iPhone from the row of buttons at the top of the iTunes window. Select This Computer, and then click Backup Now. Backup may take a few minutes.
• Open the Settings app, then click "General": If your iPhone is disabled because you have too many attempts to enter the passcode, you will need to reset it using a computer and iTunes or by searching for your iPhone. See the sections below for details.
• Scroll down and press "Reset".
• Press "Clear all contents and settings."
• Enter your passcode: You will need to enter your password and password lock the screen in order to proceed with password reset.
• If you do not know your passcode, you will need to use iTunes and your computer to restore your iPhone to factory settings. See the next section for details.
• If you do not know the passcode to lock the screen, you will need to put the iPhone in recovery mode before connecting it to your computer. See the next section for details.
• Wait for the device to reset: reset usually takes about 20 minutes or so. Your iPhone will reboot during the reset process.
• Restore the backup, or set your device settings as new: Once you have finished the reset, your device will ask you to restore the backup or adjust the settings again as if you purchased a new device.
• Enter the Apple identification code to bypass the activation lock: An iPhone with the "Search for your iPhone" option will require the Apple ID and password previously registered to the device. This is to prevent anyone from stealing your iPhone and using or selling it.
If you purchased an iPhone from someone else and you will encounter activation lock, you will need to contact the original owner. Either log in or visit www.icloud.com/find to abandon the property. This is the only way to bypass activation lock.
Method 3: Reset using iTunes:
• Backup your data (if applicable): If you are able to use your iPhone, back up your data so that you can restore it after resetting your phone. You can create a backup in iTunes.
- Connect your iPhone to your PC and run iTunes.
- Define your iPhone from the row of buttons along the top of the window.
- Select "This Computer" and click "Backup Now". Backup to your iPhone may take a few minutes.
• Select your iPhone in iTunes and click "Reset iPhone" to reset. You will be prompted to confirm that you want to erase everything on your iPhone. The resetting process is likely to take about 15-20 minutes.
• Put your iPhone in recovery mode if it does not appear within the iTunes program: If your iPhone does not respond, or you do not know the screen passcode, you may need to put it in recovery mode first. This will force the phone to reset when connected to your computer directly.
- If your iPhone is off, press and hold the Home screen button.
- Connect the iPhone to your computer via USB, making sure that iTunes is running. Then continue to press the Home button.
- Leave the Home screen button when you see the iTunes logo back on the iPhone screen.
- Follow the requirements in iTunes to restore factory settings.
• Download the backup: After resetting your device, you can use iTunes to download the latest backup. With the iPhone connected to your computer select iTunes, click the "Restore Backup" button and select the backup you want to download.
- If you have reset your iPhone because you forgot your password, do not restore your backup, your password will be restored. You will have your new iPhone settings, and then your content will be resynchronized.
If you purchased an iPhone from someone else and you will encounter activation lock, you will need to contact the original owner. Either log in or visit www.icloud.com/find to abandon the property. This is the only way to bypass activation lock.
Method 4: By searching for my iPhone:
• Log in to my iPhone's search site: You can use the Site Search for my iPhone to reset your iPhone. This is useful if it has been lost or stolen, first you can remember your passcode, or your iPhone has been disrupted due to too many attempts to enter the code. Where you can login to search for my iPhone by visiting www.icloud.com/find
• Select your iPhone from your hardware list. Click list all devices at the top of the window and choose your iPhone from the menu.
- Your iPhone will be inserted if you have already registered it then enter your Apple ID and can search for my iPhone.
• Click "Clear iPhone" in the info box on your iPhone. You will be prompted to confirm that you want to delete it.
• Wait until your iPhone is cleared. This process may take some time to complete.
• Set up your iPhone: After you erase your iPhone by searching for my iPhone, you will need to go to the initial setup process. You can download a backup copy if you have one on iCloud or on your computer, or you can adjust your iPhone settings as new.
